Sarah Ferguson
6th August - 30th October 2004

Sarah Ferguson is a ceramist living and working in East Sussex, England. She has a high standard of technical competence and is well qualified having gained a BTEC in Ceramics and Surface Pattern and then a BA (Hons) in Ceramics and Glass in 2002.
She is a newly established artist working within the relatively traditional technique of throwing and glazing. Her influences are particularly interesting however, giving the work it's many enticing features.

Her work is greatly influenced by Italian product design and this is quite clear from the overall style of the ceramic forms she creates. Surface texture is particularly important to her, the contrast between the rough and the smooth, jagged lines lie next to organic formations. However, perhaps the most influential arena for her work, if not a little unusual, lies within the forum of sexual fetishism. Although portrayed in a subtle manner, this influence is very apparent. Does fetishism, after all, not reside within the boundaries of conformism?
She aims to produce a variety of clays and firing techniques enabling her to produce a diverse range of forms but keeps glazing to a minimum so as not to detract from the form's individual status.

This showcase will be worth a visit as regardless of influences these vessels are impressive and beautiful in their own right.
