Ashglazed porcelain vessels
"I aim to make my pots reflect some of the harmony in nature and, amongst other things, the patterns in waves, wet sand, stone, seaweeds and of birds in flight. The seashore has inspired the glazes on my smaller porcelain vessels, where seaweed is a source of ash for the glaze as it gives the colour and texture of stones.
My larger vessels are more like what I find in my vegetable garden. They are wheel thrown, and I like the battle to shape the large lumps of clay into a pot. I finish them off by scraping and burnishing. They take a long time from start to finish, so I get to know the personality of
each piece.
What matters is that each piece has a life of it's own when I leave it."
