Ceramic Showcase -
Joanna Sancha

1st February - 30th April 2003

Joanna Sancha is a ceramist producing incredible stoneware fired, hand-built coil pots.
Her work was initially inspired by a collection of gourds made into domestic vessels that she once saw in Peru. "Vessels made from gourds and other plants appear to have influenced the shapes of vessels through the centuries" Joanna comments.
Her forms are beautifully organic, inspired by gourds, figs and pomegranates. They seem to have a figurative quality that expresses movement and gesture. Joanna also considers relationships, either those of direct human contact or how shapes, forms and colours combine as a great influence on her work.

Joanna succesfully uses a range of clays and glazes to provide a variety of colour, textures and finishes. An important element in her work is revealing and exploiting the particular qualities of the medium with which she works.
These forms are powerfully spacious while being remarkably elegant and deserve to be admired.

A selection of vessels by Joanna will be on display in the Ceramic Showcase from 1st February until 30th April 2003. After this date, Joanna is happy to accept commissions.
All pieces will be for sale and some items will be available to purchase through the Interest Free Credit Art Loan Scheme.
