Since
graduating from the University of Central Lancashire, Wendy Lawrence
divides her time between making ceramics in her studio and working as
a designer / maker of huge ceramic murals. The murals are highly decorative,
figurative and essentially two dimensional, forming a strong contrast
to her personal ceramic work.

Wendy
is influenced by a love of the natural environment, inparticular rocks
and pebbles and naturally occurring contrasts of surface and form. Another
source of inspiration is from megaliths and stone circles - the very
presence of the stones and the apparent simplicity of form, through
which she hopes to create a sense of calm.

All of Wendy's work is handbuilt, either through coiling or using press plaster moulds. She fires much of her work using 'low tech' firing techniques such as sawdust firing, saggar and raku. "I enjoy the 'chance' element of these firing techniques and allow them to influence the surfaces of my work." |
