This
will prove to be an extraordinary exhibition of designer makers
whose use of materials would normally be considered unconventional
or incongruent to the finished form. The concept behind the
unusual show is based upon the access designers have to a
much wider range of materials and due to their expertise and
innovation can mould the unexpected in to useable and wearable
works of art
Sculptural objects by a number of designers will be exhibited,
highlighting the incredible skill and determination used to
create items through many interesting techniques. The audience
will be presented with an array of 'diverse materials', all
seemingly ordinary artefacts made from the unfamiliar.
To name just a few, Stella Corral will be producing versatile
interior products made from flexible, translucent plastic.
Rebecca Gouldson will be showing her large metal sculptures
inspired by scarred and eroded architecture while Jennifer
Collier remarkably works with paper to produce decorative
items such as shoes, hanging dresses and canvasses. Laura
Ellen Bacon creates beautiful vessels from lining fabric and
willow, generating a nest like framework suitable for any
contemporary interior. Tasmin Saccani hand makes contemporary
wall and floor pieces, playfully transforming materials such
as felt, fleece and PVC, making surfaces and textures appear
unrecognisable. Lucy Adamson makes innovative and quirky fabric
vessels , which combine the formal and decorative qualities
of ceramics with the multitude of exciting avenues available
within textile and fabric manipulation.
Through ingenuity and innovative technical skill and incredibly
high standard of craftsmanship is achieved to produce something
quite different from its original material. A must see!
