'Expect The Unexpected'
Jewellery Showcase

7th May 2005 - 30th July 2005

This striking exhibition has been researched to include five fantastic jewellery designers who create beautiful work from particularly unusual media. These designers differ in their choice of diverse materials but they are all related through process, using unconventional materials to create ingenious works of a very high standard.

PLASTIC - Sarah lindsay creates bright and bold 'handmade plastics'. She uses a heat process to reprocess industrial off-cuts of plastic into more varied amalgamations. In this altered form the plastic almost takes on a new identity as a precious material.

PAPER - Katherine Pearce uses paper, cotton thread and gold to create exquisite pieces of jewellery, traditionally very delicate in nature.

RUBBER - Having earned a fast growing reputation so far, Deborah Zeldin O'Neill challenges many different constraints and perceptions of what jewellery should be. Making work from rubber, in particular, items such as sewing machine belts and vacuum cleaner components, she creates both playful and powerful pieces of work as a celebration of the intentionally banal!

FELT - Rachel hadley specialises in the use of hand made felt, maintaining an organic aesthetic through shape and surface texture. She describes her work as an expression of colour and texture, combining the precious once again with the non-precious. Her work is experimental and flamboyant yet very wearable!

FOUND OBJECTS - Grace L Girvan uses found objects to make stunning pieces of jewellery. As a beachcomber, she naturally collects objects, grouping them together and juxtaposing the precious with the non-precious items she finds.

This showcase is the ideal accompaniment to the main 'Expect The Unexpected' exhibition, beautifully focussing on materials not usually associated with the finished object. Not to be missed!
