Helen Hanson - Print Exhibition
Beginning of March - 28th June 2008
Helen Hanson was born in Scarborough, Yorkshire and studied French and Italian at London University. She spent the first half of her career teaching languages before deciding to become a professional artist.
During her years in teaching, Helen developed a particular interest in etching. The familiar northern landscapes of the Lake District and the Pennines provided the initial inspiration and focus for her ideas. Her work shows a fascination with the detail and pattern of plant life set against the changing aspects of the landscape. Colours, moods and textures develop from one plate to the next, often in a series of closely related images. Water and weather are recurrent themes, from her early Cumbrian landscapes to the Kent seascapes and East Anglian fens. In recent years her chief inspiration has been the rich and varied ecology of the Scottish Highlands.

In complete contrast, her latest etchings are a series of vibrant, dramatically posed 'Flowers with Attitude'. These images continue to reflect her interest in plant forms and textures but celebrate their colour, impact and modernity. Her etchings are on copper or zinc and make use of a wide range of traditional and innovative printmaking processes. Each plate is inked individually in several colours and printed by the artist on handmade paper.
Helen has work in a number of galleries in Britain and abroad and exhibits regularly. She is a member of the Society of Botanical Artists, the Society of Women Artists, South Bank Printmakers and the highly successful Greenwich Printmakers.
'A wonderful collection of prints which entice you into the beautiful imagery captured in Helen's work; a must see for any print enthusiast.'
