Jane Blackman - Ceramic Showcase
Saturday 19th January 2008 - End of April 2008
'A wonderful collection of work by this talented ceramicist.'
Jane Blackman paints in an intuitive way, laying down colour and marks which are often informed by memories of landscapes and seascapes particularly those of northern England, Wales and France.

Jane Blackman's work combines painting and ceramics to make three-dimensional paintings. Using expressive brushstrokes she creates abstract landscapes on the inside of slab-built earthenware vessels. In contrast, the chalky white exteriors are calm and precise with clean-cut edges emphasising shadow and line.
She is particularly interested in exploring the role of frames, edges and boundaries and their importance to our way of seeing. Her forms act as a frame for the painting so that by viewing the work from different angles, a series of interior landscapes are revealed, framed by the rim of the vessel.
