Profile
Katie Adams has been working with clay since she started pottery class at the age of twelve. She went on to study at Camberwell College of Art in London where she experimented extensively with forms, subjects and techniques. In 2004 she started working as part of a collective in a thriving urban pottery in Clapham, which is where she found her current style.
In 2005 Katie moved to her own studio at Cockpit Arts in the centre of London where she makes designer tableware in white stoneware clay. She throws pots with subtle lines then draws into the surface to express simple narratives that are inspired by the architectural environment around her in London. Katie’s work combines her two passions throwing and drawing.
For her solo show Katie has chosen two subjects: a devoted fan of architecture Katie celebrates the Leeds Skyline on her tableware; and secondly, inspired by a commission for the Natural History Museum, Katie has developed a natural history range on large dishes featuring the prehistoric and present day phenomena, the Coelacanth fish.
Technical Information
Katie Adams’ tableware is thrown in white stoneware clay. She draws into the surface of the leather hard pot with a blade. She uses a spring green stoneware glaze over the iron oxide illustrations, which is fired to 1260 degrees Celsius.
