Serena Partridge : 2nd May - 30th June

Serena's creations are inspired by a very specific interest within European fashion of the past. It is the exaggerations and excesses alongside a total disregard for rational considerations that intrigues her. For example, fifteenth century Venetian platforms rising to heights of 20inches or the superfluous French coiffures of the eighteenth century.

Her interest in their decorative theatrical quality allows her to produce fanciful designs that are uninhibited by practicalities. "I enjoy distorting both scale and proportions to create spindly silk and lace stockings, elongated leather boots and frivolous wigs adorned with wire cakes or ships."

Each accessory is presented within a glass or wooden case and accompanied by a descriptive label. "My aim is to suggest that these items have become museum accessions, I see them as three dimensional caricatures that illustrate the extravagances of centuries past."
