Sean Rorke is a remarkable artist and printmaker, creating abstracted
photo-etchings directly from his original photographs. He has been
involved in printmaking for over fifteen years as an artist, technician
and tutor, and currently as a part time lecturer at De Montford University.
Sean studied Printmaking at Loughborough University and then graduated
with an MA in 1998 from Wimbledon School of Art.
Sean
Rorke's work is based upon industrialisation and the urban architecture
that now seems to be a feature of most UK and European cities. Originally
from Merseyside, Sean often used to photograph everyday urban scenes
such as old buildings, graffiti, rusty railings or old water towers
around Liverpool. Now he continues to be inspired by the everyday
industrialisation that he encounters. The basis of his work is regularly
influenced by changes to his daily routine, moods, the weather and
light, which enable him to regularly absorb new visual stimuli.
The
work is printed in small editions with an attention to specific detail.
By varying the process of inking the plate, Sean creates wonderful
tonal subtleties and colour changes. Deliberately taken out of context
the work is cultivated as an array of abstracted line, tone and colour.
