Samantha
takes her inspiration from whimsical childhood stories, Victorian
gadgetry and the work of W Heath Robinson and Rowland Emmett,
who designed for the film 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang'. Her extraordinary
objective is to realise the necessities and requirements that
would be involved in 'fairy life': to provide everything a
fairy would demand during it's daily existence through 'Brains
Fairy Aiding Inventions'. She describes these humorous devices
as 'theoretically functional items for the mildly eccentric',
reflecting a subject matter close to her own heart.
Samantha
already has work in public collections and has won several
awards to date. Along with an extensive article in 'Crafts'
magazine, her work has also been documented in numerous publications
including ' Textile Perspectives in Mixed Media Sculpture',
a new book written by Jac Scott. These marvellous creations
are beautifully constructed pieces of enchantment, guaranteed
to evoke a sense of nostalgia, escapism and make believe.
