Established in 1982, The Craft
Centre & Design Gallery seeks to promote the best in contemporary
craft from both new and recognised designers through a programme
of exhibitions and showcases.
The
gallery strives to promote the excellence of modern British craftsmanship
through exhibitions of contemporary jewellery, ceramics, glass,
applied art, textiles and limited edition prints.
The
gallery was set up with the intention to increase public awareness
of handcrafted contemporary design, to make these pieces available
for sale and to foster an appreciation through supportive information
and knowledgeable members of staff.

Over
the years, the gallery has promoted the work of hundreds of designers
from the well renowned to recent graduates that has ranged from
the traditional in nature and technique, to items that are extremely
innovative and even the seriously wacky.
Many
designers have regularly displayed at the gallery for a number of
years and will hopefully continue to do so for many years to come.

When
the gallery opened, there were very few craft outlets in the UK,
therefore it was very daring and it was questioned if such a venture
would succeed.
After twenty successful years, The Craft Centre & Design Gallery
is thriving with an exciting exhibition plan, a growing educational
programme, an interest free credit purchasing scheme, a commissioning
service, a website and an ever increasing public profile.
There are two major exhibitions held annually, one in Summer with
a particularly strong educational angle and one at Christmas intended
to be visually stimulating and to have something to appeal to all
tastes and budgets.
