For the past 38 years we have been championing contemporary craft in the vibrant city of Leeds to shine a spotlight on independent makers and their small businesses from across Yorkshire and the rest of the UK. Through an exciting seasonal exhibition programme we highlight the skills behind handmade and share their inspiring stories. Bringing these amazing collections of contemporary craft together under one roof has created a haven for many visitors to escape the stresses of daily life & create mindful experiences. Please help us keep the gallery and the hundreds of small businesses we support alive by donating what you can so we can continue to keep bringing the very best of contemporary craft to you and help us and these creative industries thrive.

Our Educational Co-ordinator Gwyneth Williamson recently journeyed to New Zealand and caught up with an old friend, Helen Ormsby (pictured above). Gwyn discovered that she had purchased pieces from the gallery over many years and wanted to share them with us as part of our 35 year anniversary campaign Where Are They Now?
"Helen moved from Leeds to Auckland over 20 years ago and since then she always pops into the Craft Centre on her visits home. Friends and family have also taken over gifts from the gallery when visiting her. Hanging in her hallway is Helen's favourite piece, a Janis Goodman* print of Leeds Town Hall, which reminds her of home (pictured left). Another favourite is a Mychael Barratt print which hangs in her bedroom (pictured above). Whilst on her wrist in the photograph sits a well loved silver and gold bangle (using the process Keum Boo) by Katherine Campbell-Legg. Pictured below.
They all look fabulous with the NZ sunshine pouring into the house, and they sit amongst work from many local painters and makers."
The gallery is still working with Janis Goodman and Mychael Barratt so if you have admired any of these pieces just get in touch, we'd love to hear from you. And of course if you have a Where are They Now? story you'd like to share send us an email and a few snaps to email@example.com
*You can read Janis Goodman's contribution to our Where Are They Now? campaign in our previous blog post, enjoy!
