On the Saltaire Arts Trail...

Well the red bunting was up in Saltaire for the recent May Bank Holiday weekend so that could have meant only one thing...The Saltaire Arts Trail was back! And what another great event in the Yorkshire region for the whole family with creative activities for the kids, maker master classes and demonstrations, performances and of course those beautiful mill homes of Saltaire being opened up as a village art gallery!

Speaking to some of the makers in the makers fair in Victoria Hall it was easy to appreciate why it’s one of their favourite shows to partake in; it’s friendly and full of community spirit as well as a great venue to showcase their selection of original jewellery, prints, ceramics and wall art. It was great to see some of our makers at the fair too including jeweller Catherine Woodall, textile artist Lindsey Tyson, printmakers Karoline Rerrie and Sarah Harris and etched glass by Andy Poplar of ‘Vinegar & Brown Paper.’

The Trail this year also featured Rural Crafts Re-imagined, a touring exhibition of traditional craft in contemporary practice. Children from Saltaire Primary School took part in master class workshops with some of the artists; seeing their response to their experience with their own work on display was a great addition to the show.

The Saltaire Advent Calendar returns in December. Find out more www.saltaireinspired.org.uk
