A trip down memory lane...

Back in 1982 something exciting emerged in the city of Leeds, a hidden gem in the heart of the cultural quarter that last year celebrated 35 sensational years. We discovered some old photographs of The Craft Centre when we were looking through some old files and we just had to share them with you. Look at those fabulous pots, jewellery, furniture and hairdos! And have you spotted our Artistic Director Hayley amongst them too! She is still leading the gallery after 28 years and is truly dedicated to bring the very best of British contemporary craft to the vibrant city of Leeds. During our 35 years celebrations we delved into our history and came up with several campaigns to highlight our fabulous years; you can explore them on our website here.

Working with makers and supporting their development and creativity has enabled us to provide a unique visitor experience for a growing audience of those wishing to learn more about the skill, talent and originality behind contemporary craft. The support of our designers, visitors and customers over these remarkable years has been crucial in the success of The Craft Centre and Design Gallery.
