"I rushed out and bought a beautiful bowl which has come to be known as the 'Liberation Bow
Last week we enjoyed a visit from Liz Goodman and her husband. They marvelled at our selection of collections on display and in particular our ceramics. After a lovely conversation with the couple Liz shared with us a personal story of a purchase she made here of a piece created by Lorna Jackson Currie which we're sharing with you below as we continue to celebrate our 35 year anniversary:
"The story behind it is that 18 years ago, I was just coming out of an unhappy marriage and had, for the first time, control over my own money. On the very first day of realising that I wasn't accountable to anyone, I rushed out and bought a beautiful bowl, which has come to be known as the "Liberation Bowl" and was the start of our now very extensive collection of ceramics. The bowl which I bought from you quite recently is part of this collection, and sits looking beautiful against the yellow wall in our living-room.
The happy ending to this story is that my second husband is an artist and an avid collector of ceramics, and he would never object to the purchase of a beautiful pot, plate or vase; finances permitting, of course!"
Thank you Liz for sharing your wherearetheynow? story with us. If you have a story that you'd like to share then send us an email to craftcentre-leeds@btconnect.com with some photographs and your story which we'll share for you on our blog and via social media. #35years #wherearetheynow? #craftstories
